This magnificent tomb offers an altogether different experience bathed in the soft light of the morning, like a poem in marble. An ethereal atmosphere pervades the whole place, the subdued light highlighting the beauty of the monument.
Then visit Agra Fort, built by Emperor Akbar on the banks of Yamuna, beautified with palaces and gardens. Within the fort are the Khas Mahal, Sheesh Mahal (mirror palace) and Anguri Bagh (Grape Garden). Many events which led to the construction of the Taj Mahal, took place here. Miniatures painted on the walls depict festivals, hunting and war scenes. Precious stones and mirrors are embedded into the plaster. A major attraction at Amer is the Elephant ride all the way up to the Fort entrance. This journey on caparisoned elephants in royal Maharaja Style is a truly unforgettable experience.
